Please join WCAPT for their 2018 Annual Meeting event held this year in San Francisco on Saturday, April 7th from 9:30 am to 6:30 pm. The event begins with a behind-the-scenes tour of the public artwork found along the Music Concourse within Golden Gate Park (AM Tour), followed by a presentation and tour of the recently rehabilitated War Memorial Building (PM Tour), and concludes with WCAPT's annual meeting and reception in the Green Room where you can mix and mingle with existing and new friends and colleagues!

10:00 AM to 12:00 PM ~ Golden Gate Park Music Concourse Public Artwork Tour
Join Allison Cummings from the San Francisco Arts Commission, Rowan Geiger from SF Art Conservation, Katharine Untch from Conservation Strategies, and Megan Carver and Jennifer Correia from ARG Conservation Services, for a rare opportunity to see the work behind public art management and maintenance at Golden Gate Park.
Public artworks sited along the Music Concourse, including sculptures that date to the late 19th Century, have been placed and re-placed frequently around the landscape. The conservation planning and treatment of these and all outdoor artwork in Golden Gate Park will be discussed in situ by public and private conservation professionals to provide a holistic understanding of both art conservation planning and appropriate conservation decision-making. Some treatments will be discussed to share details about techniques and logistics that have been implemented to care for this part of the civic art collection.

War Memorial Building Seismic Upgrade & Rehabilitation:

Location: Meet in War Memorial Building Lobby, 401 Van Ness Avenue, San Francisco, CA
Registration for PM Tour begins at 2:00pm on Saturday in the Lobby of the War Memorial Veterans Building located in the Civic Center area in San Francisco. Transportation to the building is not provided; the building is easily accessible by Muni, Bart, ride shares, and taxi.
2:30 PM to 4:30 PM ~ Presentation & Tour
The building tour and presentation will focus on the seismic upgrade and rehabilitation of the War Memorial Veterans Building located at 401 Van Ness Avenue, San Francisco. The Beaux-Arts building, designed by architect Arthur Brown, Jr., is a historic landmark and houses the Herbst Theater, where President Truman and other heads of state and dignitaries signed the United Nations Charter on June 26, 1945. From 2011 to 2015 the building underwent a full seismic retrofit and rehabilitation, after which it reopened to the public.
Speakers include Taryn Williams from Simpson Gumpertz & Heger, Nancy Goldenberg from Carey & Company, and Joel Stout from Thornton Tomasetti. The building tour will begin and end in the Lobby, followed by a presentation in the Green Room.
