Caring for Outdoor Public Artwork: Conservation Planning and Treatment in Golden Gate Park
Public artworks sited along the Music Concourse, including sculptures that date to the late 19th Century, have been placed and re-placed frequently around the landscape. The conservation planning and treatment of these and all outdoor artwork in Golden Gate Park will be discussed in situ by public and private conservation professionals to provide a holistic understanding of both art conservation planning and appropriate conservation decision-making. Some treatments will be discussed to share details about techniques and logistics that have been implemented to care for this part of the civic art collection.
Join knowledgeable speakers Allison Cummings from the San Francisco Arts Commission, Rowan Geiger from SF Art Conservation, Katharine Untch from Conservation Strategies, and Megan Carver and Jennifer Correia from ARG Conservation Services, for a rare opportunity of an inside look at public art management and maintenance.
At the conclusion of the tour, questions and discussion are encouraged amongst groups over lunch in this unique setting.
Box lunch and reception included in cost of ticket. Annual meeting does not require a ticket and free to the public.
Meeting location and transportation directions are provided upon registration. The annual meeting will be held later in the afternoon in the Green Room at 401 Van Ness Avenue, San Francisco followed by the reception. We hope you can join us!
