Come and hear project representatives Mark Paez of the Port of San Francisco, Peter Birkholz, Erin Ouborg and Elisa Skaggs of Page &Turnbull, discuss the transformation of Pier 15 into the new home of the Exploratorium. This tour will focus on the rehabilitation of the deteriorated structure and buildings and will take you around the exterior of the building as well as the bulkhead building interior. Learn about the project’s success and challenges with the federal 20% Historic Rehabilitation Tax Credit program, as well as the conservation of historic signage, steel windows, concrete, cement plaster and much more. Please note, we will not be going inside the paid area of the Exploratorium.
A wine and cheese reception at the ARG office at Pier 9 will follow the event, providing the opportunity to discuss the project in more depth as well as network within the preservation community.
