Project Description and Details:
Redlands was once the center of the Inland Empire’s citrus industry and a wealthy tourist destination from the late 1890s to the early 1940s. Both industries relied heavily on the railroad that ran directly through the historic downtown. With the decline of rail transportation in the area, nearly all of the warehouses and train-oriented buildings have been demolished. This session will highlight the adaptive reuse of three of the early 20th century buildings that anchored the transformation of a forgotten industrial town center into an enlivened commercial district. All three projects were made possible by the use of federal historic tax credits and comply with the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation.
