ABOUT THE SPEAKERS:

Gary Hulbert earned his M.A. degree in Art Conservation and Certificate of Advanced Studies from Buffalo State University of New York in Art Conservation. Gary has a B.F.A. in Painting and Drawing from the University of Wisconsin- Milwaukee along with graduate studies in art history and studio art. He has been an Andrew W. Mellon Fellow and painting conservator at the Balboa Art Conservation Center in San Diego, a Partner at Engel & Hulbert in Del Mar CA and now in private practice in the Central Coast of California. In  addition to treating easel paintings, he has conserved murals, ceilings, and other architectural elements. His practice includes major museums, universities, and private collections. Gary is a Professional Member of the American Institute for Conservation.

Shelly Dildey is a licensed architect based in California. She most recently worked as an architect for the California Department of Parks & Recreation, where most of her focus was on stabilizing and rehabilitating historic structures, such as the cow barn at Wilder Ranch, the Bridgeport covered bridge in Penn Valley, and the Ide Adobe in Red Bluff.  Prior to her employment with CA Parks, Shelly worked at an architectural and engineering firm in Sacramento, and worked on education, utility and medical projects.

Alan Kren is a swimmer, a structural engineer, and a structural design lecturer at U.C. Berkeley. His decades of work taught him to appreciate historic architecture, structural design, and construction techniques, and to strive for sympathetic solutions when working in these older gems. In addition to the Neptune Pool repair, two of Alan’s more notable historic projects include San Francisco’s Ferry Building renovation (completed 2002),  the Willows Courthouse renovation (completed 2024). Leisure activities include gardening, cycling, surfing, and as previously mentioned, swimming.

Lada Kocherovsky, AIA, is a Principal at Page & Turnbull, a California-based architecture, planning, and historic preservation firm.  Lada is noted for her ability to lead projects focused on innovative integration of new architecture into existing structures and settings. She excels spearheading multidisciplinary projects, such as the Martial Cottle Park Visitor Center in San Jose, the Social Hall and Crocker Dining Hall at Asilomar State Park in Pacific Grove, and the $110 million Walt Disney Family Museum in the Presidio of San Francisco, among others.
